Sulfur and steam boiled up from deep below our feet, and the deepest bass note I’ve ever heard rumbled and vibrated my shoes. On our way back through the quiet (and dead?) forest, a large Ccccrrrrraaaakkkk! was heard to our left, and we turned just in time to see a tree split and come crashing down. We looked at each other in complete dis-belief except that there were three of us to verify what we saw. So if you’ve been pondering the question, “If a tree falls in the forest and I’m not there to hear it, does it make a sound?” then ponder no more because we were there for you.
