Went to “Tam Tam,” a Senegalese restaurant, yesterday with some friends. Incredible food, I had a whole fried tilapia (with the head) and plantains. The tilapia was simply huge, and apparently the owner hand-picks the fish himself from the provider so he ensures to only get the biggest ones. It was flavored with a salsa-like mixture of diced tomatoes, onions, and the like which gave the fish a tangy and buttery taste at the same time. Yum. After this, we went to the African film festival at Washington University and saw 2 films. The first was a short film from Ethiopia called “Menge” and was my favorite of the 2 (see April 26’th for a summary and a drawing inspired by this film).
